Since I built my R2-D2 a few years ago, many others have been popping up. To keep the whole Astromech idea fresh, I'm changing my paint job, to RED thus becoming R2-M5!

The Dome....

A simple taping off of the selected areas.

Half done on the bottom.

Here's the fun part, at least it was when I first Built R2

This paint goes on soooo nice. Real clean and no dripping.

Looks done.....?

The Accessories......

With white primer

And the top coat of Burgandy Red

I still have to add that plastic circle thingy...

The Body.....

More Tape

Yep. I painted it right in it's place!

I didn't paint this part because I will turn it into a red plexied window.

Now to add more red areas

That's really starting to look good.
Do you like my new white 22 inch Acer LCD?

The legs are the hardest part because the shape is hard to tape off.

For the first time the paint dripped a bit.

But it does look a lot better.

As you can see I cut out the window
Here's still what I have to do.

Here's the plexi I bent and painted.
(See my Plexi Bending in the Tutorial section)

That's close enough

Then I just had to slide it in.

Here's with a flashlight behind it

On the inside of the body I added Silicon to hold the plexi.

R2-M5 will have a Blu-Ray ROM!
(It's a DVD & CD writer too)

Now the other leg....

I finished the leg.

The temp monitor came today

I'm using it for general system temp only

The media reader arrived

Now for the weird to begin.
I knew this project wouldn't run smooth.....

The extra 2GB of RAM arrived

I have an Abit IC7-G board that I know can easily handle 3GB of RAM. Here's how I have them configured.

I put it in and my BIOS recognized it, but this is far as it would boot????

Maybe I should mix the RAM or maybe match the timings?

They are:

  • 512MB - 2.5, 3, 3, 7
  • 1GB - 2, 3, 2, 5

And somehow my Compu-Nurse stopped working.....

I changed the configuration so that the RAM is mixed

And it worked!!

I added the Pioneer Blu-Ray Drive and attached it with screws

Here it is with the head on

I cut away the right size of sheet metal

Then painted it to match

Next up, I put foam tape on the drive door so that the stealth cover will only grasp the door

I then stuck the cover to the door

Next, I worked on my keyboard

And now it matches

Everything is together now.
