Interceptor

Well here we go yet again.  This will be a theme case mod, but not a system build.  In other words. I will paint and modify the case, but I do not plan on using the case afterwards for a system.

Here's the case. It's a VERY old HP Netserver

This is about the coolest feature. The door swings open!  I will definitely exploit that!

The first thing I want to do is add two blow holes to the front and get rid of the factory 'vent' look.

Since this is a Police case I will  be adding actual Police items to the case, like handcuffs, a badge and possibly an ASP Baton

I cut the holes all the way through while holding the case in place with my feet. Except I was wearing shorts and all the little shards of metal went flying into my leg.  Years of modding and I still didn't even consider that happening!

It pretty much matches up. It will wind up being perfect when it needs to be.

I had to add support to the front so I used expanding foam to fill in the venting.

Once dried, I added bondo.

I spent hours touching it up with the tip of my finger, getting all the little divets and cracks.

And now it's pretty smooth. I'l probably add one light coat of primer to bring out the areas I missed, then touch up those last parts.

Then came the primer

And the 1st coats of paint.  I will add 3 more coats of color after this and 3 coats of clear on the very top.

Once the black was applied I taped off the case for the stripe.

And here the stripe is done.

The clear coats are next. There will be 3 total.

It's not mounted just yet, but here is what it'll look like

Next I found the grilling surface that I got when I built R2-D2

Then cut it for the front fans.

And now it looks like jail bars

The left window continues to dry....

And painted the drive bay covers

The top most bay was originally for a floppy so it is thinner than a standard 5.25 bay. I will use an Interceptor emblem in it's place.

Like this:

Next, we decide what to add here:

4 Days later and 14 votes have made this design the winner.

And here's the completed left panel

Here's the case totally assembled.
(I see the white line too, it'll get fixed)

I changed out one of the fans because it makes more sense to have it match the lightbar that'll be on top.

The decal arrived...

And the front emblem.

Attaching it was easy enough.

Up Next, the lightbar!

It's been taped off for painting the lens.

Red first over the Amber LED's

Then I drew off the cut lines

And cut all the way through.

Then I dropped in the lightbar. It's going to be real nice

Then comes the top.  I painted the #9, but it was a bit oversprayed.

And it's done.
