Hard Drive PC - Page 2

Here's where I am now, it's not final though.

As I said, it wasn't final.  I decided to make some changes.  The drives will now be affixed to a case.  I chose this small micro ATX case.  This addition will provide more stability and give me the CD cage and IO ports necessary in a build.

The drives were reoriented to cover more area on top.  First they were affixed to the top.

Then bolted to the top.  The excess screws were shaved off.

That looks better anyhow.

Then the side panel was cut so that screws could be attached to the outer HD's from the inside.

Finally the sides were attached to the panel.

Oh, and that plexi will not be staying.  I'll be getting one piece bent at the right places to cover the whole thing.  That'll look much more cleaner and professional.

These cool square bars evened out the top.

Here's the front of the case.  I will not be using any front bezel as it will be created from the HD's

Here's the two going on side-by-side on the front bottom.

Next came the case painting.

And I mounted the parts on the motherboard tray.
But then I had a problem....

Originally when I took the parts out of the case, I set the video card down and started painting.  Well, duh???  The video card was still there!

Now it's painted.

I experimented and scratched the paint off the gold leads.

And it worked!!!

But then another problem arose...

The heatsink was too big and the case wouldn't close, so I tried to replace it with a lower profile one.

And I broke the DAMN socket!!

Sooo, I decided to scratch the case idea and fabricate my own.

All I actually needed was the bottom.

After I cut it, I slid it in place.

Then I worked on the front.  Using the HD's here too.

I decided to still use the motherboard tray.  This is only an example.  I'm not going with this ghetto look.

I'll add some square bars to the front too.
